From the Publisher Author Q&A
What reactions/ feelings do you hope readers will get from reading this novel and some of your other books? It is my dearest wish to empower women. To help them know they can do anything they set their minds to. No matter how different we all are, we are all equally important and have something to offer the world.
What makes Alessandra a different heroine from Daughter of the Pirate King's Alosa and Warrior of the Wild's Rasmira, and what makes them similar? Alosa and Alessandra are both Slytherins. However, Alosa has fewer lines she's willing to cross to achieve her ends. Rasmira is a Hufflepuff, but she and Alessandra would both fight to the death to protect the people they care about.
What was your inspiration for writing THE SHADOWS BETWEEN US? I wanted to write a romance with a bad boy as the love interest. And just to clarify, I don't mean a boy who is just a player. I mean a boy who does really bad things: murder, lie, steal, etc.; but I realized the only way to believably pull off a romance with a true bad boy was to also make my protagonist sort of evil, too. From there I just put together a bunch of elements that I adore: political intrigue, magic, pretty dresses, Gothic environments, etc.
